Well, I’m back from the Maryland sheep and wool festival. …I am so exhausted. As soon as I get some energy I’ll be making my festival post on the semi daily. I thought in the mean time I would just kind of update the dolly blog with related doll topics.

This was my very first time at the festival. I had only dreamed about going for about ten years. Such a different environment compared to the conventions and other show I’ve gone to. We noted that even though the festival was huge… bigger than say Otakon, no one carried around walkie-talkies (sp?). I’ve never seen this at any show before. So laid back and relaxed. I did get to see one local doll collector this weekend. Ann (thanate) and her friend Ruth stopped by to say hello, looking very relaxed and very summery (I wore jeans the first day… a very stupid idea). I hope you ladies had a fun time.

More fiber talk and Dolpa
Now besides seeing Ann, why is the festival at all doll related? Well, over the past year I’ve been giving yarn spinning a try (thanks to a local artist and friend Nancy Newman…. such an enabler). My goal has been to learn to spin fine yarns for doll knits and such. So far I’ve been pretty happy with what I’ve been able to achieved, and wanted to get some different fibers to try out as well as a good lace weight drop spindle. I couldn’t not have been at a more perfect place. Wools of all kind were everywhere. I managed to get my spindle (I’m in love!!!) and not only did I get some amazing fibers that included alpaca, I got some raw sheep’s wool straight off the sheep. This is going to be a big project. It’s oily, sticky and smelly at the moment so there are a lot of steps involved which includes cleaning it. It’s needs a deep cleaning which is the most time consuming part. I have to be very careful not to felt the whole lot. I’m very excited. I don’t think that all of it will be for doll knits but I’ll save that for another post on another blog. I have so much to work with and I can’t wait to get my hands dirty.

In actual doll news, I applied for Dolpa and I applied for the class and a school A head. I spotted one on the market place and inquired about it but the seller didn’t get back to me. Feeling a bit bummed I when over to the msd section for “shits and giggles” and spotted a doll that had been on my wish list for some time. It was being sold by a reputable seller and by an amazing price. Coincidence…. I think not. I contacted the seller and she got back to me right away. I’m keeping it hush hush until the whole transaction is finished but I’m so excited. I didn’t see myself getting this guy for sometime, especially after Dolpa revealed their workshop sculpts.

I’m crossing my fingers for Dolpa because I’m looking forward to seeing some familiar faces. I’m going to look for a hotel after I get my confirmation. I’ll be praying to the doll gods this week.
